This is the facade of San Giovanni in eastern Rome. The facade was one of the last things added to this building in 1735, but the interior and its adjoining buildings date from everywhere between 400 AD and 1646. Until 1870 all popes were crowned at this church and the Lateran Palace was their official residence.
