Canon EOS Elan, Kodak Royal Gold 100 film, 28-80mm USM lens, April 1996

You may recognize this facade from the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. They filmed the ending of the movie here but the chambers within are a lot less interesting than those in the movie. This is called the Khazneh, or treasury, and it was built around the 1st century BCE. When I got here, knowing little of the site before hand, I thought this was all there was to see. I was quite wrong, as I found out when I followed the narrow ravine to the right into an entire valley filled with carved enclosures and caves. This was once home to the Nabateans, a civilization that existed at roughly the same time as the Romans.
