Here's a photo of the well-preserved South Theatre in Jerash, where festivals are still held on a regular basis. The theatre can hold over 2500 people, and was finished sometime in the 2nd century AD. Supposedly there is a special spot on the theatre floor where your voice will carry due to the theatre's design; roughly where the person with the red hat is standing.
