I took this during the approach to the complex via motorboat from the mainland. The temple complex, as well as Abu Simbel, were moved stone by stone to their present locations to prevent being flooded by Lake Nasser in the 1960s. This complex was one of the last centers of ancient Egyptian worship, until being shut down in the 6th century by the emperor Justinian.
